non bootable win vista blue screen d0000144 Unknown hard error
Hello
I would like to know why I am getting this blue screen stop: d0000144 Unknown hard error right after booting windows vista. Actually after windows vista is starting to load some programs, suddenly a blue screen shows up with the message: stop: d0000144 Unknown hard error
I tried removing both of the 1gb ram memory modules the computer has in case one of them was faulty but it did not solve the problem. I just hope that the worst case (both ram memory modules getting broken at the same time) is not the cause of the problem.
Does any one know whether this might be related with the registry?
I have not saved the registry as far as I know but is there any place where win vista does an automatic backup of the registry now and then in order to restore it?
Otherwise, do you have any suggestion to help me with this issue?
I would like to add that I tried by using a win xp live cd which I have tested successfully on another computer. However, in this broken computer I get this message when win xp live is loading: (translated into English)
"The file usbehci.sys has caused an unexpected error (4096) in the line 5964 in d:\xpsprtm\base\boot\setup\setup.c"
This error is pretty strange because it shows up when booting from the win xp live cd and even if I unplug the internal win vista bootable hard drive of this broken machine.
Thanks in advance.

Any other idea before reinstalling a fresh copy of windows vista?

Run the disk diagnostic for your brand of disk drive (if you don't know what make it is run Seatools). Download UBCD and burn it to CD, it has all the disk testing utilities on it plus many more useful tools besides, then just boot with the disc in the drive and select the utility that you want.
Ultimate Boot CD
You may find these instructions helpful for burning the UBCD .iso file to disc:
How can I write (burn) ISO files to CD or DVD?
