    Resolved [RESOLVED] ACRONIS--Logon not valid

Hello, ............... With my WindowsXP and Acronis True Image Home 2009, build 9809 I cannot make either a full or a file backup. The Warning message states: "The login information is not valid. Are you sure you want to continue?" This has only been happening recently, and previously I did not have this problem. Whether I click Yes or No the backup is never started.

Under the Process tab in Task Manager the User name is given as XXXXX for TrueImage.exe. This designation is also used for programs that I have added to my system. Alternately when in the Acronis program under: "Run with credentials" the designation shown is: XXXXX-19B3D7vxyz\XXXXX. I have tried various parts of this designation to no avail.

I have sent a message to Acronis (with the serial code) discussing this problem and received no response. Since the Acronis forums require the proper Logon, I'm blocked from using them. It seems to me that the correct logon must be somewhere in my computer. Does anyone have a solution to my situation?

Hello Welshjim, ............. Thank your for your reply. I checked the link you suggested and tried his (Dallas Butcher) approach.

I just uninstalled the program (again for maybe the fifth or sixth time in a year) and started over, it workd for now.
Don't think I will be spending any money to upgrade this software.
However when I try to re-install I get a message that says that a higher version of Acronis is already installed and that's as far as re-installation will go.

In trying to work around this I have removed any reference to Acronis with one exception. That exception show up in the registry under.HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis. The Acronis folder has one subfolder, schedule2. I do not know how to remove (delete) Acronis from the registry. Can you help here?

I was able to re-establish an account with Acronis so that if I want to pursue the problem through their forums, I should be able to. For now I will give it one more try to re-install providing I can get rid of that remaining Acronis folder. If you care to continue helping I would be most appreciative.

shrdlu--I think you first should uninstall Acronis using Revouninstaller.
    http://www.revouninstaller.com/
At the end you will be asked if you want to remove associated. Registry keys. Do that, too.
Acronis offers several Uninstaller tools, such as
    http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showp...06&postcount=4
But I cannot find one for TI v9. So use Revouninstaller unless you really want to play around in the Registry. If Revouninstaller does not help you can always use the reference to see which Registry entries apply.

Jim, ........... Again thank you for your assistance. Since I have already removed Acronis using the Windows Add or Remove section, following your suggestion to use Revo Uninstaller has no meaning even though that program is installed on my system. Acronis does not show up as part of the Revo listing.

I'm going to give up on using Acronis. Trying to use their web sites to get help is impossible in my estimation. So I will depart from this posting.

shrdlu--Did you look at the article that Acronis offers with all the Registry entries to delete?
Reinstalling Acronis TI v9 and then using Revouninstaller would be another way to get rid of Registry items.

FWIW--Windows comes with an acceptable BackUp app.

The Acronis CD is bootable. When I use Acronis, I usually just boot from the CD.

Welshjim and jdc2000 ...... Your persistence exceeded my patience. Thank you both for your replies. I used the CD approach that jdc2000 suggested and was able to do backups without the "Logon not valid" stopper.

I suspect that the problem developed after my recent download of the Acronis upgrade to build 9809 from build 9796. And the CD that I received from Acronis has build 9646 so using the CD places the program out-of-date but at least is usable. Again I appreciate your continued interest and help.
