Resolved [RESOLVED] Default e-mail client not properly installed

    Hi
I am not sure if this is the correct section to place this query, so apologies if I have got it wrong.

I used to use Windows XP and Outlook Express, but changed to Windows 7 and found that Hotmail would not work with Outlook Express. Now I use Windows Live Hotmail but find that if I am looking at a webpage and then click on an e-mail link on that page I get the following message:
"Could not perform this operation because the default e-mail client is not properly installed."
Please can you advise me on how to correct this problem?

You had Outlook Express installed on Win7 ?

What is most likely you will Need to do..

    Open "Windows Live MAIL"

On the Menu Bar - Select Tools (If you do not have the menu bar - Press the Alt key first)
    Select Options
On the General Tab - Press the "Make Default" button if the Default messaging program is listed as Not being WLM (Windows Live Mail)

If you Find it is currently set as default - Write back and we will try another avenue.. We may need to uninstall WLM and re-install

Thank you for the replies, Steve and Und3rtak3r. No I do not have OE installed. I followed the advice and although my version of Windows 7 is obviously slightly different I managed to find the appropriate boxes and and no longer get the error message. So everything seems to work fine now.

    Many thanks to you both.

There is , of course, no requirement to use anything. You can use any e-mail client you want, just as you could any previous versions of Windows. If you mean what client does Micro$oft have, you can download Windows Live Mail for free, or use Outlook (pay).
