Overheating only takes .01 seconds or there about.
Try a repair install.

Westinghouse laptop fan issue.
Hi Pennydog,
I seem to have the same problem with my Westinghouse laptop. Fan doesn seem to run and the system temperature continues to rise until keyboard gets hot to the touch system shutsdown.
The 800 customer service number for Westinghouse (included in the manual) is no longer an active number so I dont even know where to begin to look for a replacement fan
Can you give me the 800 number you called or any other vendors you may have contacted to get the right fan.?
Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated

poa - Actually I sent an email to tech service via the Westinghouse website and they referred me to another person within Westinghouse. He told me he had one fan left and would gladly send it to me, which he did. He also said the fans were no longer available via Westinghouse, but could be "matched" for one similar at another supplier. I could never find a match for it, but you may have better luck.
Mine still gets really hot at times, but not as bad as it was. I have one of the cooling fans that sits under the laptop and I have gone as far as putting a gel ice pak under it if I plan to be on it for longer than normal. It is a hassle, but keeps it cooler until I can get my work finished. I am still searching for a solution other than purchasing a new laptop. I have considered getting an Evercool Magic Notebook Air Extracting Cooling Device that is sold at www.frozencpu.com.
Good luck - I know how frustrating it is.

heating
it is possible that the laptop may be having over all issues newer m.b.o. s use a high temp solder apparently the solder is prone to micro cracking try a cooling pad see if you can boot into safe mode this sounds like you may need to send it in for repairs how ever bear in mind that newer laptops are fairly cheap

I will be getting a new laptop in a few months. It will be cheaper to get a new one over having this one repaired I think. The fans/over heating are a common problem with this laptop I was told by someone at Westinghouse.

i cheaper alternative to consider is the net books if your around wifi consistently and have high speed internet at home you can remotely log onto your home p.c to access flies this way if you loose the netbook all of your files are at home also research what you going to buy now a days the profit margins are slim and many times the mother boards can have serious issues
