need some advice, grandaughter at school said wireless card in laptop had quit working and switch is not off. wireless adapter does work but she wants card for convenience, my question how hard is it to install card in laptop. i have built desktops and installed all kind of hardware in them but never a laptop. is there an access door or do you have to take it apart, any help would be appreciated

You can use a PC card or a usb nic. either wired or wireless.
This pdf shows where the usb and the card slot is.

You might want to try reseating the current wifi board and antenna wires first.

If you can get the lapper apart, have a good look at that switch - they are very cheap and nasty and unreliable on some laptops I don't know why they can use a keyboard combination like they do on my Eee netbook.
