Use the built in Windows Easy Transfer to move any data and settings from your old machine. It works like a dream, and you can't beat the price

Check if Paste produces the same effect in other programs, for instance Wordpad or your browser. If you can't paste, the problem is in Windows. Also, if you're past your trial period of Word, it's normal that some functions are disabled.
I used Comodo Backup briefly for my Data partition folders, but found it arcane. Karen's is easier to set up. Karen used to write for the wonderful Windows Magazine before it went under. But check for Win 7 compatibility.
For imaging the C drive, I use EASEUS Todo Backup or EASEUS Disc Copy.

Imaging tools are built into all versions from Home Premium upwards, so no need for 3rd party apps

Thanks for all your suggestions, foxy.

I am a bit confused. I am talking about Word Processor, not M$ Word (which comes as a 60-day trial version. Besides, I bought my PC a week ago. And Paste malfunctions in Word Processor only.
I am at work now, so I cannot check much; so far I already discovered many interesting applications on Karen's web site. Thanks again.
