    Recommend a free RAR program?

I had a RAR program installed a couple months ago (I rarely use .rar files), but it apparently was a trial version and expired.

Can anyone recommend a good / free nks/ non-expiring .rar program? (for XP Home)

    thanks!

I use the 7-zip and it works nicely for me. Have been using it for several years now with no problems.

IMO, 7-Zip is the best of it's kind. Simple interface and I have never had any negative issues using it. Nowadays, that's saying something!

Installed it last night and it worked great, thanks.

one question. I couldn't launch it by clicking the .rar file, I had to start 7-zip and search for the file. Is that correct?

You need to set the file association for .rar to 7-zip.

    Open 7-zip
    go to Tools - Options
check rar under the System tab

    OR

right click on a .rar file
    click Open With
    Choose 7-zip
check "always use the selected program..."
