    Router question

I have a OLDER linksys wireless G router. I have two computers wired directly to the router and 3 other computers hooked to the router wireless. I was told that I should update my router because it is slowing down my internet connection. Will having a older router slow down both my wired connections as well as the wireless? I didn't think it would affect the wired connections so I never bothered updating it.

It will be at least capable of 100mbps if it is wireless, which is way faster than any Internet connection (unless you live in South Korea anyway ). It is possible that an older 802.11b wireless connection might affect a fast broadband connection though. What model of router is it, and what sort of Internet connection do you have?

Roadrunner Internet doesn't mean anything to me, it's just an American ISP. What speed is it? Is it ADSL, ADSL2+, cable or what?

Then it is possible that the speed of the wireless may be slowing the Internet a bit - but wireless speeds depend on many factors anyway. But the wired computers won't be affected.

The farther away from the wireless router and more stuff in between will definitely effect the speed.

The WRT54G has a fast ethernet WAN port. I don't know why that would slow your connection down, since Roadrunner is nowhere near 100 mbps. A newer router may handle multiple clients more efficiently, but I wouldn't promise miracles. In the end, it comes down to the roadrunner connection.

Wireless is a different story, since there are many factors that can affect performance.
