Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).
Click on Startup tab.
Click Disable all
IMPORTANT! In case of laptop, make sure, you do NOT disable any keyboard, or touchpad entries.
Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.
Click OK.
Restart computer in Normal Mode.
NOTE. If you use different firewall, than Windows firewall, turn Windows firewall on, just for this test, since your regular firewall won't be running.
If you use Windows firewall, you're fine.
Same problem?

When you did it before, you said:
It disabled all except
Remote Procedure call (rpc) locator
Remote Procedure Call (rpc)
DCOM Server Process Launcher
Maybe you didn't follow my instructions well, because the above services ARE Microsoft (Windows) services, so they shouldn't be disabled anyway.
Part of my manual says:
Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
Click Disable all.
Try again. Make sure, you don't disable any Windows services.
I'm getting ready for bed, so, if the above procedure won't help, re-enable all startups and services you just disabled, restart computer and we'll try something more extreme.
I want you to uninstall AVG, using AVG Remover: http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools
Uninstall Zone Alarm as well.
Turn Windows firewall on, restart computer and see how it goes.
I'll check back here tomorrow morning.

Broni I did the above and a couple of things happend that I cant explain. First was an error message that said something could not be accessed and I may have to log in a an administrator. Even so I was prompted to restart and when msconfig came back up after restart the check was no longer in the box that said hide microsoft process. Once i checked that box again everything left was unchecked. Which I am assuming is correct. The other issue is on the startup tab zone alarm was unchecked when I hit apply but after restart it was checked and zone alarm is running. I am still experiencing that same problem. Is the next step to remove AVG as you suggested?

Excellent
Now, you need some decent AV program.
Download and install one of these:
- Avira free antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/en/download/1...antivirus.html
- Avast! free antivirus: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
I'm still curious, if it was AVG, ZA, or both...
I don't like either of them, so it shouldn't matter
