Computer is stuff at certain resolution and freezes when I try to change it

I have a laptop that has Windows Vista and I seem to be having problems with it. My resolution was changed by default when I installed a certain program and when I tried to change the resolution, it would freeze. The problem wasn't the program I installed, I had installed it many times before as well as on another computer. I guess the problem happened before and I only realised it then. It's not just when I open the Display Settings page, every option in the Personalize page when you right-click the Background will freeze the moment I open them. It is getting really anoying because it messes with all the resolution for my games.

This would be a good case for using System Restyore to roll back to a point before the problem started, I think.

Is there any other option, I'm not sure how far back it would push me if I did that.

I was able to do the system restore, but the problem happened more than three days ago. Is there a way to do the system restore from longer ago?
