I was never able to get Kaspersky to run - tried an additional two times.....let it sit for 6 hours the first time and 8 the second with it stalling out and doing nothing after 11 and 17 minutes respectively.

Yes -- was doing it afte rmy last post. Got rid of the Dell Support thing.....and it said it required a restart to fully remove the 8 trillion components, so.....I still had the box when I shut it down that time. I did another hijack this in case you needed it. I'm curious what I should do about Norton? I know it's crap. obviously and is causing at least one of the errors I'm getting at shutdown.....should I just get rid of it all together and use something else?

Computer seems okay.....it was doing that "working hard sound" when I restarted it, but I had to get the Norton up and running again since it's been shut off now forever so maybe it was doing some sort of behind the scenes scan. The yahoo page did load with the most current headlines without refreshing so that's a step in the right direction (). Again - thank you SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP AND PATIENCE!!!!!!!

Your computer is clean

1. Turn off System Restore:

- Windows XP:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Check "Turn off System Restore".
5. Click Apply.
6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
7. Click OK.
- Windows Vista and 7:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on (in most cases, drive "C:")
7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
8. Click OK

2. Restart computer.

3. Turn System Restore on.

4. Make sure, Windows Updates are current.

5. If any Trojan was listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately!

Followed all your last steps....my only problem was in trying to do the defrag (which apparently I never have done....) I got an error which prohibited me from doing it - the error said I needed to do the chkdsk utility on /f ? Needless to say.....I have no idea what this means? I did the disk cleanup, but now I'm at a loss. If you doubted my level of idiocy before (haha) now you're certain?!?!

Everything else seems to be fine though.....and I'm very appreciative!!!!
