    I do not use adobe reader, but use the free PDF Xchange Viewer instead.

    Uninstall Adobe Reader.

    Only 512. That's definitely a factor. 1 GB would speed up everything, 2 would be even better.Check out your maximum possible at crucial.com.

    You're also missing SP3+ its updates on both comps. Security holes, etc.
