Resolved [RESOLVED] WIN7 Build 7100 Ultimate to WIN7 Home Premium

I am running Windows 7 Build 7100. As this will be coming to the end of its registration period soon I want to 'degrade' it (via upgrade) to a paid version of Home Premium. I have created a boot-able USB with Windows 7 however it will not allow me to 'degrade' (it requires Ultimate to be installed).

I do not want to have to do a reinstall as I will then need to reinstall all my software and drivers. Or, is here a way to copy drivers and programs across without reinstalling them?

    Thanks,

    Glyn

All programs have to be reinstalled because there is bits and pieces of them in the registry that can't be copied.

You'll probably have to do just what I'm going have to do soon too. Completely reinstall.

I'm in the same shape here. But you will have to do a complete install. There is no way of doing a Downgrade. All OS's require going up as the files that are involved can't be downgraded since it will basically crash your system.

Really stinks, but its the only way of doing it.

However, to ease you pain, Windows Easy Transfer (just type "easy" in Start Search), will copy all your data and settings to wherever you like - a USB drive is ideal. Then you can just copy them all back after reinstalling Windows. The programs still need reinstalling, but it takes all the hard work out of everything else. And it is simple to use too

Just to let you know I have also successfully upgraded a laptop running Vista Business edition to WIN 7 Home Premium by using the same technique. All is running much better so far.
