Mysterious High Pitch Bleeb

Anyone have this problem before or knows what is causing this ? Occasionally I get a high pitch bleeb that last for about 5 or 6 seconds. But just one bleeb. No error message, no interference with what I was doing, etc. Everything working properly. Just the ONE bleeb once in a long while. Occurs sometimes 3 days from the last one. Sometimes, the next day, sometimes more days. But it is there. Never happened before till lately.

Is there a hardware wire connection problem or some software problem ? Anyone know or have experienced this before ?

I am using Windows XP with SP3, Iinternet Explorer 7 and Outlook Express 6. I also have Mpozilla Firefox installed, but seldom use and never have both IE and Firefox running at the same time. This is a late addition some 2 months or so ago. My pc is Sony Vaio Z1VA with new Samsung 160GB HDD, having 2 partitions. All softwares are regularly updated. Have AVG Antivirus, PC Tool Antivirus and Zone Alarm Firewall for ages. Apart from Firefox, there's no new software installed.

Approx where is the bleep coming from? Monitor/speakers/keyboard/case etc?

You may be picking up some type of radio transmission. I frequently get bleeps from a nearby ham operator. In my case it's easily identified as such.

I think it's from the case. But being a laptop, it's coming from under the keyboard to the right hand side, looking at the screen. This is where the Sony Z1VA on/off switch, the bluetooth indicator on/off light is located

It's never happened before and I have no new devices around unless some neighbour got something new that's interfering with it. But isn't there a law regarding signal interference from devices that manufacturer have to follow ?

There are laws, but most times it is the poor unshielded wires in our speakers that is the problem. So, the problems is on our end.

Yes, my CD/DVD drive is near there. Why ? It's never caused any problem before. What is causing it now and what do I do to overcome it ? Thanks

Overheating alarm?

I tried to find out what is the default sound for overheating from Control Panel - Sound and Alarm and can't find the setting for this. So how would know if the sound is for overheating ? Thanks

Is BT enabled ?I know 5-6 is a bit long for a BT connect/disconnect indication,but its possible depending what the default sound is for such.

BT = Bluetooth, I assume ? IT's also been on ever since I got the laptop. But what is the ".....5-6 is a bit long for BT......." mean and what do I do if this is the casue ? Please remember this sound thing only started not long ago and I am not well versed in technical aspects of computing. Thanks

Yes BT= Bluetooth


I know my phone will beep when I power off my BT headset.My Netbook has a BT proximity alert that can be set when it detects a BT capable device . The default sound can usually be set to whatever sound you'd like same as the sounds in Windows.Where are you when this sound happens?Home ,Office etc...Its possible that until recently there were no BT devices around (range is usually 33ft) .It may also be a wireless network alert .If you don't use BT turn it off ,as it reduces the charge of the battery quicker to have it running.
