Upgrade from Core 2 Duo to Core 2 Quad
I have this CPU

I want to get a new Core 2 Quad CPU but I don't want to spend a ton. Is it possible to get any Core 2 Quad and it will outperform the one I am using now? For example if I get this one, will it perform worse than what I have now?

You say worse, but what do you do now?
That information would sure help out.

I will have to let a Intel user post, because up to now the duals were faster than the quads while gaming.

The only time a quad will benefit you in gaming is if the game software is written to utilise all 4 cores. If not, the faster processor is king.
Even then, your graphics card will be the deciding factor.

I agree. For single threaded games that replacement will give very slightly worse performance, for multithreaded games, it should give better performance. For everyday use, 4 cores are better, but not so much so that it's worth the trouble and expense of upgrading IMO. For a new build, definitely go for 4 cores.
Nick.
