Hello, I need a little help here. A little older laptop Gateway 450SX4 no built in wireless, running Win2k. I have installed the wireless adapter WGT111v2 it is a usb type. Got the sotware installed ok I pickup the wireless router ok with a real good signal, little icon is green but no internet. Seem to have all of the protocols as well. What am I missing? Lights on and nobody home kind of deal here.

What's the make/model of the router? What type of encryption is it using? Is SSID broadcast enabled? Is MAC address filtering enabled?

The router is Netgear DG834G router/modem WEP enabled on both ends SSID broadcast yes. The wireless modem works on my network I have another laptop that is ok. I am trying to figure why it wont work on my neighbors wireless or mine either. It appears to be in the computer

Only WEP? Yikes. Are you sure you put in the key correctly? Did you check if MAC address filtering is on or not?
Did you try rebooting the router?

I live way out in the country and WEP is not a big deal...but...just in case I changed everything to WPA-PSK and wala it just kicked in. So I changed that on my router for all wireless activity in the future and will change that on my neighbors router. Thanks....we can close this case!

Aside from the security aspect, WPA uses passphrases which are SO much easier than those stupid WEP keys.
