Mpeg to DVD conversion issue
I previously posted a question re: burning mpeg video files to a DVD-DL. Have about a dozen that are a little over 1G each and want to free up hard drive space. Would be nice to be able to watch them on my TV using my DVD player too.
So, the advice given here was to download a program that would convert and burn. I tried practically every one that would allow me a trial conversion first. Don't want to buy until I know for certain it will work.
Not one worked. All they did was stall and not respond. Here is a summary of what I have been doing...
1 insert blank DVD-DL into my Dell inspiron dvd burner. btw, I am using XP Home with all the updates.
2 open converting program and drag files to open window.
3 click whatever button is required to begin the process.
4 watch as the program goes on endlessly without an outcome.
I must assume the problem is on my end. I also have a portable burner that I could try. And the files are located on a portable HD with a usb connection to my main laptop.

Which type of DVDs are you using? You don't necessarily need DL disks for a MPEG if just over 1gb. Regular DVDs support up to 4.5gb of files.
I don't know if fink gave you this website, but here is where I go for video help. I'm a member there also.
www.videohelp.com They can answer any question you have on this subject and direct you to which tools (free or bought) that work best for them. Joining the site is free.
As I told you in your other thread and so did fink, you need a program that burns DVDs because Windows XP's burner does not.

Suggestion:
Burn the files to a data dvd before you go any further. That way you have a back up so you will not lose them.!!!!
Now while working with a video file copy it to the main hdd because the usb maybe to slow for the program.
This link has helped lots of folks.
