Network Card Issues
I have a d945pvs mother board and have downloaded the intel pro v drivers for it. I have installed the drivers many different ways. All i get is sending packets but not receiving.
The back story is the machine is a windows xp sp3 that i bought the new mobo for. Once i installed it i did a repair install of windows and then uninstall the old drivers and install the new drivers for the new mobo.
any ideas?
Some things i have tried:
1. I have uninstalled the network card and reinstalled it. through the built in install.exe and through find new hardware.
2. i have tried winsockfix
3. i have tried turning on 1394 in bios
4. i have updated the bios
5. i downloaded older network card drivers and tested
6. I have not tried a new network cable, but this same cabled work in the old mother board.
7. reset my firewall
8. made it a static ip
9. made it dhcp
10. lots of things.
I will tell you other things i have done when i remember.
My background: I work on computers all day, and my job title is Systems administrator for where i work. I have fixed thousands of computers / servers / printers. This one is just got me stumped because its sending and not receiving.

Possibilities:
Bad or missing wire in network cable socket on the motherboard
Bad network adapter on the motherboard

i was actually thinking about that on the way to work this morning. I have had to use needle nose pliers to pull the connectors up on another machine before. I was going to look at that when i got home.
I was also going to try another network card when i got home as well.

Solved: I was downloading the nic driver from intel them selves. It was the driver for the board version 1.4.8. But it would not work. I was building an old HP DX2000 and found it had the same network card model, a Pro V. I tried to use the HP drivers on my machine and the network card just started to send and receive bits.
Its been working like a champ since i did this. Multiple reboots, service pack upgrade, office install, the network card is still working.
