    The software RAM testing programs, though very useful, are not able to test all possible faults. If you think there my be obscure memory problems the only sure way of finding out is to find somewhere that has a hardware memory tester and get them to test the modules.

    As for the hard disk performance, that is because the rotation speed of most hard drives has stayed at 7200RPM for years now. And it is the rotation speed of the platters that governs sustained throughput. The only way of increasing that figure is to go for a 10,000 or 15,000 RPM drive (expensive), or an SSD (even more expensive). My latest rig is the same - this is what I get from an overclocked Core i7-920 rig:
