I think Nick was right about the CPU, they rarely go. I doubt your "new" Asus board is really new, probably been on a shelf somewhere and a few years old would be my guess. Are the caps in good shape visually?
Sure would help if you had a different brand or model board to check with.
Doing Okay, Crunchie, thanks....still seeking that elusive employment situation though....

Funnily enough I did ask for a Gigabyte board but he had run out. Then he discovered he had the Asus K8n-E Deluxe which is same as my old board.
In an email to me he also says its rare for the cpu to go. He had a batch of the k8n-e Deluxe boards and all that he has sold so far is working.
If I go and buy another cpu I would probably have to buy a PSU as well to be sure, and I don't think that is worth it for Old PCs. Total would be about £223. Can buy a full Tower system for £350.
Aldi is selling this in morning for £350 http://www.medion.com/ms/aldi/md8339/uk/?refPage=aldi
Am I correct in thinking that if PSU fan starts then stops immediatly same as Heatsink fan and rear tower fans that means PSU is ok?? I'm reluctant to try that pin thing on psu as I hate electric after haveing a bad shock a few years ago. two repair shops tested it with the tester and they said it was ok at the time as they both also tried a new psu on it and that did not work either. I can't afford a New £800 pc as my Electric cooker has gone up spout and I need a new one. Plus I got a large DSLR lens on order.

If you can't RMA the board, I have a 3200+ Athlon64 processor in my inventory I'll sell for good price plus mailing. Never used except for bench-testing two boards, probably 45 minutes' total use time. Had a customer who found out about dual-core and changed their mind about buying a Socket 754 system. PM me if interested.

Just to UPDATE you all.
I did order a second hand cpu AMD 3000+ off of eBay. £27 total. To get it to work I had to have just the graphics card conected and NO Ram. I heard bleeps for first time. Had to slot one RAM into second slot and it fired up. I then incerted the other Ram in first slot. ALL going OK. I now have THREE PC's that work. So All my IDE HDD in external cases will go back into the old K8N-E Deluxe. Have ordered 2 x 1Tb internals to slot into the plug n play caddys on my new PC. Will then use my USB Bridge Cable to join both my new one and my M2N-SLI Deluxe so I can Transfer my Photos between them both. New un will be used mostly for Photography and Video.
Thanks All for your Help.
