    Resolved [RESOLVED] fingerprint password removal

My wife's father passed away this past summer and among other things we ended up with his MSI notebook. It has a fingerprint reader which is activated. Short of putting a new hard drive and OS into the machine is there a way to get it working?
    Thanks.

Not much we can help with this as it would be against our AUP. So you should be able to just reinstall the operating system. You shouldn't need to change the harddrive.

I think I would need to get it to boot from the CD/DVD drive, yes? How would I do that?

Is the fingerprint need to access the BIOS/Setup or is this needed to get into Windows? If it's needed for the BIOS, that is what we can't help you with. Laptop security isn't something we are allowed to help you break.

If you need the computer to boot from the cd that has to be setup in the BIOS. Should be under the heading of something like : boot order or boot sequence.

Unfortunately the password is on both BIOS and Windows. Is there anything I can do to make this computer function again, such as install a new HDD and OS?

If the password is on the BIOS, which I thought might be in this case, there is nothing we can tell you to do to fix it. You can try contacting the laptop's manufacturer and see if they have a solution for you.

The password wouldn't be on the harddrive. It's on the motherboard.

To follow up (and I hope I'm not violating the AUP in doing so) I was able to get around the fingerprint reader and password. It was surprisingly easy to do, after all. A bit of an eye-opener.

I'm glad you got it figured out. We don't need to know the how though as this would violate our AUP.
