    SATA MOBO/HD Question

I have a Inspirion Desktop 531 that was originally setup as ViSTA desktop. I decided to start over and install Windows Home Server on it. I had everything working fine but then I switched my SATA cables around (removing a DVD Writer) and now the machine doesn't recognize one of my hard drives.

My question is does it matter which port (it that the correct term?) that the SATA plugs into on the MOBO? They are lableled 0,1,2,3. I've tried to switch where the cables are plugged into it but then the computer does not boot.

Sorry if I've provided too much information I'm just trying to figure it all out. Thanks in advance for your help!

Provided system was not configured with RAID of any kind
    and
SATA ports are those controlled by the chipset
Should not be an issue as to which ones the SATA cables are plugged in.
    Cheers.

Check in the BIOS Setup to make sure that the ports are enabled - they aren't always by default. Also, if any of the SATA ports are set to AHCI mode, then Windows will need the correct drivers to be installed (Vista AND Win7 have built in drivers, but I'm not sure about Home Server).
    Nick.
