Outlook Express can't save e-mail pics.
Hi I have a new problem. I used to be able to right click on a picture in my e-mail and save picture as....
Now whenever I try to right click on a picture in my e-mail it comes up and says..."The System Cannot Find the File Specified" If I click OK it just goes away and I don't get to save my picture. If I click Help it says..."Cannot find the file C:\Windows\sytem32\mshtml.hlp file. Do you want to locate it yourself?
If I try to locate it it is no where on my computer.
What changed this I was always able to save pictures.
Any help please.
Dave.

lonewolf--Is this problem occurring with all OE emails and all images within an email, or just some?
If all, perhaps some help here

Its just for pictures that are a part of the e-mail, not an attachment.
I can save attachments ok. Its just when the picture is in the e-mail and I right click and choose "save picture as....."
What I've been reading it has something to do with IE7 but noone seems to know how to fix the problem.
Have you heard the same thing.
Dave.

lonewolf--I Googled for "Cannot find the file C:\Windows\system32\mshtml.hlp file" and "The System Cannot Find the File Specified" and found that the situations (and therefore fixes) are many. So I do not know if any apply to you.
Most specific were these posts

but there also was

What version of Windows and Internet Explorer are you using?
Sometimes the problem seems to have something to do with IE7, but not all the time.
If you are running IE7 you could try to uninstall IE7 from Control Panel|Add/Remove|under Windows Internet Explorer 7 and then reinstall IE7 using the procedure here.

I was wondering if this issue has been resolved as I am having the same problem. Is there a solution to the problem?
Thanks

Toro--I since have observed that the images sent by one email correspondent of mine cannot be saved, and I get the message lonewolf did--"The System Cannot Find the File Specified". But no such problems with other correspondents.
This suggests the problem is caused by the sender, and not by you as recipient. You can always take a screen shot and save it as a workaround.
I was never clear whether "Cannot find the file C:\Windows\sytem32\mshtml.hlp file." was part of the saving image problem or a separate issue.

Thank you for your response. I believe the message related to the mshtml.hlp file is just an indication that a particular help file is missing and is not specificaly related to the photograph problem. I have always been able to right click a photo and save it. This problem just occured recently .
My son and daughter often send photos and I have always been able to save them. This is a problem that just occurred. I have a feeling it may have to do with recent updates that may have been downloaded from Microsoft. It seems very strange that when I forward the photos to myself I am able to save them. I am running Windows XP. My wife has a Dell laptop running Vista and the same photos sent to her were able to be saved by right clicking on them. I find the whole matter very frustrating. If you have any other ideas I would certainly like to hear them.
Thanks

I just wanted to close this matter. I did not find a solution with respect to the problem with Outlook Express and the inability to save photos but I was able to come up with an alternate solution. I noted that my Wife's computer running Vista and Windows Mail did not have the same problem as my computer running Outlook Express. I was unable to install Windows Mail with XP but I was able to install "Windows Live Mail". After the install and now using this software as my email provider I am once again able to save photos. If anyone is having a similar problem they might consider installing this updated version of an email product from Microsoft. Thanks for the assistance I received.

Saving Pictures within an email
I just encountered the same problem. As suggested by an earlier post, I only ran into the problem with one particular email sender.
I did find, however, that if I forwarded their email to myself I was then able to right click and save any of the pictures within the forwarded email without a problem.
Go figure.

While it never hurts to scan for malware, I think the problem here was primarily that OE does not always permit images to be saved from incoming mail that has been sent by Outlook using Rich Text Format. For some reason the fix is to forward the mail to yourself and then the image can be saved in the normal fashion.
P.S. Old threads never die.
