Better Software
Hiya
I have a Kodak Easyshare C913 camera. It comes with Easyshare software for image transfer. This software is bulky, slow and loaded with features I have no need for. Takes forever to load up.
I am looking for some generic way to get images from the camera to the PC without using the Kodak software. Looking for something lightweight and no frills. I heard somewhere that Irfanview can do it....but don't know for sure or how. Can windows do it alone? Not much eperience with cameras, so any help appreciated. This applies to both winXP and win7.
Thanks.

Does the camera have a memory that is removable?
My camera all use SD chips, so I bought a SanDisk MobileMate for each camera case.
I remove the chip, insert into the adapter, plug into a USB port, cut and paste the contents where ever I want. Sure saves on the batteries and the camera does not heat up.
I have the MobileMate™ SD™ Plus 5-in-1 Reader, scroll down a tad.

And the real nice thing is I can copy/paste to and computer the kids have. And they can burn the backupcd.

Yeah....it's got an SD card. But before I buy something, I want to see if there is a free software solution first. The win7 machine has a built-in card reader, but the two other machines don't.

Faststone image viewer under File,Download will copy the files from the chip.
But old Windows explorer will do the same thing with the adapter. Plus The adapter works with my phone's chop.
Best $20 I ever spent.

Fact is hook up the USB and see if Explorer will pick up the chip while in the camera. I have done that with a couple brands.

Ditto...I installed all the junk that came with my Cannon....Win Explorer is the simple thing to use.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

For most digital camera users, software like the already mentioned free FastStone Image Viewer or free Picasa from Google is all they'll ever need. The bundled Windows programs are not sophisticated enough, and most software that comes bundled with cameras is dreadful!!!
