[RESOLVED] Backup takes long time to complete
I am using a Dell Dimension 4300 PC with Windows XP Home OS with Service Pack 3. The hard drive on the PC is only 40 GB’s. I am backing up this drive to a WD 120 GB’s external hard drive. These backups using Syncback software are taking an inordinately long time to complete. I recently deleted approximately 5 GB’s from my hard drive and my backup took almost 3 hours to complete. It shows that I have over 290,000 files to backup. There must be something wrong with the way I have asked for the back up to be done. I only want to backup any files that have changed. I have not asked for files to be synchronized. Previously it always took less than an hour to do a backup. Is there some action I should take to improve the backup time?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Brian

You want it to sync. You can still specify it as a one way sync but the program should be comparing files before copying. Sounds to me like it's set as one way copying. So it's copying everything, everytime.

Backup takes long time to complete
Hi HAN,
Thanks for your reply. Can you tell where I tell the program to sync only one way?
Regards,

The options you have vary depending on which version of SyncBack you have (free, SE, or Pro). Some screen captures of the settings can be found at the link below:

Backup takes long time to complete
I deleted the files on the destination external hard drive that were not on the source drive and this solved the problem.
Thanks for your help,
Brian
