Looking for New Hard drive
I'd like to replace the hard drive in wifes computer to a bigger drive. It has in it now an 80 gb WD800BB-53CAA1 and I'd like to go to a 500gb or in that range. She wants to convert allot of vinyl to CD. It's using Windows XP SP3 with 1012 gb of ram. What would be a good drive to buy and do you have to worry about your motherboard when you upgrade like this? Will be doing the converting using an ION Profile LP. It's a Gateway E6000. Yes it is an IDE drive.

You need to verify - but odds are its an IDE drive....(not SATA)
Getting another WD (western digital) would be good since apparently you've had real good luck with the current one.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

You won't go far wrong with Seagate, Samsung, Hitachi or WD, there is very little to choose between them.

Is there anyway you could use a SATA drive in this machine?

Only with a SATA pci controller card.
A Example I would use as there is no RAID.
