[RESOLVED] Buffalo WBMR G54
I have 2 PC's using the internet ADSL hard wired..only one is coupled at a time. (1 cable only) The # PC is windows xp only single boot. The other older Pc has XP and linux multi boot. Here is my problem.. when I switch all on for the first time # PC or older PC with Linux or XP booted ...I get a very very low broadband connection but if I disconnect the power cord to the moden pause a few seconds and re power (PC still on) I get excellent connection( been suffering with this for ages and did not know how to sort it) My configuration of PC's and Modem are OK I think or are they...do I need a new modem...
Any thoughts welcome.

Just add a router and stop that noise. Yes switching like can cause modems to hang up.
dsl modem - - -cat5 - - router - - -cat5 to the PCs.

My modem/router are integral. 1m from filter to modem. 4 m quite old white maplin extension cable, from downstairs BT socket, not screened, lots of wires with only 2 used. I will obtain a cat5 from filter to Modem and to PC.

If your modem has the built in router and only has one port, then change the router to a switch.

See if you can get the manual for the modem.
If you have one item connected #1 and it is working, then start the second pc which is hooked to #2 they both should hit the internet with no problems.
But it seems there is a setting in the router part that is wrong, or the modem itself is in need of replacing. Had that happen a time or two.

Tried friends modem worked ok. Reset my modem and re-entered and all is ok at the moment so I feel sure it was the modem and if I have this prob again I will renew. Thanks.
