[RESOLVED] how to change mouse "travel" distance
i just bought a new mouse (ikari optical mouse).
to get the curser across the monitor (wide screen) i have to move the new mouse at least twice the distance on the mouse pad. in fact, the mouse pad is not wide enough to do this. i have to lift the mouse and reposition it. and move it again. not good for gaming.
i remember there being a setting to adjust thie but i can't seem to find it (i'm running vista). it's not in the MOUSE area of the CONTROL PANEL.
and, there is no such setting in the mouse's software provided.
any suggestions?

zeszut--My Control Panel|Mouse settings include changing the Acceleration of the mouse. It is on the Scrolling tab. Do you have that option?

In ControlPanel>Mouse is there a "Pointer Options" tab? If so, the pointer speed should be in there. If not, then you may need to find some drivers from the mouse manufacturer.

well, it'll be going back to the store. you would think a "gaming" mouse (as this is advertised) would have better controls and faster speed. w/e.

If it's optical and your desktop or where ever you use the mouse isn't real smooth, you don't need the mouse pad. Remove it and see if that helps any.

And if it is optical, a dirty old mouse pad will work just fine.
A shiney surface throws things for a loop.

My sister had an optical and her mouse wasn't moving right because her DH said she needed it. I removed the pad and now her mouse acts as it should. Only reason I mentioned this for zeszut.

I understand and agree, sometimes the table/desk top works better.

pad or padless ... it's the same.
my old mouse responds to a change in the acceleration setting. the new one doesn't. 3 of the 4 "feet" on the old mouse have come off tho this doesn't bother me or effect my game play. i just thought it was time to replace it. it's not critical if i don't. what i'll probably do is replace the mouse with an identical one.
as for keeping the mousepad ...
it's more for aesthetics than functionality. i have a black/silver mouse & keyboard, and black foam wrist rest . the surface all this is on is dark brown. the mouse pad i bought is HUGE ... and is black with a subtle silver grid pattern. it's large enough to fit under the wrist rest and most of the keyboard.
thanks to all all for your input ...
