where to find driver for unsupported scanner?

When I upgraded from vista home premium to win7 home premium, my HP Scanjet 6300c scanner is not found. Windows can't find the appropiate driver and HP soesn't have a driver for win7. Is there somewhere I can locate a driver for my scannner? The scanner worked with vista. Should I try to use HP's xp driver? Thanks.

Do they have a Vista driver? Those work sometimes.

Just a note, one should always make sure you can get drivers before changing operating systems.

Thanks for the reply. No vista driver available from HP, just an xp driver. I don't remember seeing my scanner showing up in the listas not being compatible with win7 when I ran the MS advisor before upgrading to win7. I figured since it worked using vista, it would still work using win7. Even my 1999 vintage HP 895cse printer works with win7.

The three "X"'s on the "HP Scanjet 6300c Scanner series" row mean there is NO "Software and Drivers Available" "In Windows 7", "From Windows Update" or "From HP.com".

Also, according to this HP page:They only have drivers available for the following Operating Systems:
    • Microsoft Windows XP
    • Microsoft Windows 2000
    • Microsoft Windows 98
    • Microsoft Windows 95
    • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0
    • Mac OS 9
    • Mac OS 8
    Don't see your operating system?
If your operating system is not listed above, HP does not have software or driver downloads available for this product in that operating system.

One solution that might work would be to use your 6300c in Windows 7's "XP Mode". Your computer (CPU and BIOS) would need to support Intel's Virtualization Technology and you would need to run Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate.

    MG8t7GN,

How is your printer connected to your computer? Wirelessly? Ethernet? Or USB? For HP to Windows 7 machines its best to connect via USB as Windows 7 should automatically find new drivers for the device.

For further assistance Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams.
