music video program
I recently built a new system with win xp pro. I use a Motorola SB6120 modem and a Netgear WNR2000 router connected to it. I use Vuze to download music videos and since I built this new system, most of the downloads won't even start to download and if they do, the speed is 1-2 kb/s. My old system had win 2k and I had a modem and router connected to it and my speeds were super fast. Does anyone know what settings or changes I can make to fix this issue?

Greetz.
when you upgraded to XP i take that it was not a fresh install, just a mere upgrade install?
you should log into the modem's configuration page via your web browser and give it a manual reset to set it back to factory settings.
let it redect and configure itself and see if that helps.
also please go to speedtest.net and run a speedtest and this will should you your current internet speed that way we can detect if it's just a issue with your network.

Hi, t34b4g5. Yes, XP was a fresh install. I ran the speedtest and my speeds are great. The download was 9.57 mb/s. I didn't really modify any settings on my modem when I installed it to the best of my knowledge. I know XP has a built-in firewall blocker that 2k pro didn't have. Perhaps, that could be causing this issue?

BitTorrent 101: A Peer-to-Peer Primer
Getting Down to the Nuts and Bolts of BitTorrent
http://cws.internet.com/article/3989-.htm
When using BitTorrent, it's important to keep in mind that while downloads can be fairly quick for popular files with lots of seeds and peers, they can be quite slow for less popular files with relatively few of them.
In some cases, BitTorrent downloads can often take many hours or even days to complete, irrespective of how fast your Internet connection is. Also, BitTorrent download speeds are typically not constant — they start out slow and increase in speed as more peers connect to each other and the swarm grows.
Another potential issue to be aware of is that some ISPs (Comcast is reportedly one of them) block, filter, or otherwise interfere with BitTorrent traffic on their networks. These measures generally don't prevent you from using BitTorrent, but they can slow transfers and cause other problems, such as overall reduced performance of your Internet connection.
Last but not least, when you use BitTorrent or any other P2P file-sharing technology, you will find plenty of public domain material available along with lots of copyrighted content available for download. Remember that just because something is there for the taking doesn't mean it's legal to take it.

Hi, SpywareDr. My ISP doesn't block or filter anything. I have the same IPS as I did with my other system. Nothing has changed except that I my new system uses win XP pro instead of win 2k pro. I am sure it has to do with a setting somewhere on my new system but, I don't know what setting to change. The only other change is I am using a different router, also.

You need to forward the port then in the router.

Train, do you know where I find which port that program uses. I never forwarded a port in my router before.

From Vuze site..
http://faq.vuze.com/?View=entry&EntryID=96
It doesn't say which ports it uses but apparently you can set up your
own. It's suggested you use ports between 49152-65534.
