No, they are not in Vista, I had to install them to use the V200.
But a lot of USB devices need to hooked directly to the computer. You can try the hub, but I never would with a scanner.

Theoretically, it shouldn't make the slightest difference whether it is plugged into a hub or not. In practice, you have to find whatever works and stick to that. FWIW, I have my Epson V700 plugged into hub and it works just fine.

Thanks guys
the logitech quick cam was what caused the problem and that problem was me, the cam will not show "me in the photo" in windows messenger live, it works fine seeing and hearing the other party, and they can see me , so i added it to cameras and scanners, for some reason logitech stayed there all the time wheter in use or not, as i understand they only show there "when in use"? so some how this got corrupted there and caused the epson not to be installed correctly, now it is,
later i'll reinstll the quickcam and switch the scanner from the back of the pc to the front, and put the cam back there.
tonight when i booted the taskbar had a notice drivers are installed your devices are wotking, printer camera dock and generic unknown.
i understand the drivers are not part of vista, but when you install something it gives you the option of searching your system or whereever you let it, so my point was the download for the epson i did to my desktop i never unzipped it so the drivers were found some where by the device or through vista???
ttrain-- what is this 1,
so an extension cable is??
thanks again ss and t

My experience of Logitech (all of it bad ), is that the hardware itself is absolutely fine. However, they are incapable of writing a decent driver even if their lives depended on it. It's just problem after problem, and on their own forums, where you can find hundreds of posts all describing the same issue, they have the gall to deny that there is a problem
Suffice to say, I avoid Logitech stuff like the plague these days.

I use a single hook up. I never push the USB.
Scanner and maybe a usb stick is max.
KB and mouse are ps/2.

I can't help you there I'm afraid, I've never felt the need for a webcam.
