Avira says Superantispyware.exe is a trojan
I'm running XP with service pack 3 and Avira as my anti-virus software. I also have SuperAntiSpyWare paid version running in real time on the PC. This morning an Avira window popped up saying:
Virus or unwanted program 'TR/Fakealert.BZ [trojan]'
detected in file 'C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERANTISPYWARE.EXE.'
I clicked on 'ignore' several times but the message kept coming back, so I ran a Malwarebytes quick scan and it found nothing. Then I went back to the Avira pop-up, clicked on 'ignore' and put a check mark in the box to make it remember my choice to ignore. By the way, while running Malwarebytes, when the Avira message window popped up it would stop Malwarebytes but when I clicked on ignore Malwarebytes would continue to run.
Is there something in the new Avira dat file that makes it think SuperAntiSpyware is a trojan?

That does not show up with the free version, so I would say it has something to do with the auto updater in Super.
I would let the people at Super and Avira know about it.
Let us know what they have to say PLEASE!

I went to the Avira web site forum and found this thread:
http://forum.avira.com/wbb/index.php...hreadID=101532
It looks like it will be fixed in Avira's next dat file update, and it's nothing to worry about.
Thanks for the suggestion Train. I never thought about checking their web sites and didn't know they had forums.

modmidget--And for the future you can have these two online services check out whether a file contains malware.
