XP Computer Running Extremely Slowly
Thank you in advance to anyone looking at this thread.
My PC is running Windows XP and has been fine up until about a month ago. I have Avast! Anti-virus software and Ad-Aware and have run both with full scans and defraged my hard disks and cannot find a solution.
My computer started running sluggishly (I first noticed it while playing songs in iTunes. About ten seconds into every song the audio would be disrupted, sounding like the PC was slowing down) and has become exponentially worse. I have over 6gb free on both hard disks, so it's not a space issue. There are a number of svchost.exe instances running at all times, with one usually around 30,000k. I play games on my computer and where it would take Spore less than a minute to start before, it now takes over three minutes. Please, can someone help me? I don't want to have to re-install windows.

GMER won't run, even after changing the name
I got as far as I could with the process. I did everything you asked to the "t" up until running GMER. Every single time I tried to run GMER my computer crashed within twenty minutes and went to the dreaded Blue Screen of Death. I cannot complete this step.
The technical information for the blue screen was thus:
***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0x805BECD3, 0xAA811A98, 0x00000000)
Here are the requested logs for SuperAnti Spyware and then Malware Logs (respectively):

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
- Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
- Close any open browsers.
- Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
- Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
- Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
NOTE. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
- Close any open browsers.
- WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
- Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
- If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
- Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
- When finished, it will produce a report for you.
- Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**
Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.
DO NOT make any other changes to your computer (like installing programs, using other cleaning tools, etc.), until it's officially declared clean!!!

If you have Windows CD...(if you don't have Windows CD, scroll down)
1. Insert your Windows XP CD into your CD and assure that your CD-ROM drive is capable of booting the CD.
2. Once you have booted from CD, do NOT select the option that states: Press F2 to initiate the Automated System Recovery (ASR) tool.
You’re going to proceed until you see the following screen, at which point you will press the “R” key to enter the recovery console:

3. After you have selected the appropriate option from step two, you will be prompted to select a valid Windows installation (typically number 1).
Select the installation number, and hit Enter.
If there is an administrator password for the administrator account, enter it and hit Enter (if asked for the password, and you don't know it, you're out of luck).
You will be greeted with this screen, which indicates a recovery console at the ready:

4. Now at the prompt, type in fixmbr. Your damaged MBR will now be replaced with a new master boot record
5. Restart computer.
If you don't have Windows CD...
Download Windows Recovery Console: http://www.thecomputerparamedic.com/files/rc.iso
Download, and install free Imgburn: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
Using Imgburn, burn rc.iso to a CD.
Boot to the CD...let it finish loading.
When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console.
Then, follow instructions from Step #3 above.

Avenger Scan Complete
After rebooting yesterday, after submitting those files (userinit.exe, etc) the computer was running a little bit better. After downloading and running Avenger, once I rebooted it seemed slower again. It took a full minute for Firefox to come up once I started up. The Avenger log follows:
Logfile of The Avenger Version 2.0, (c) by Swandog46
http://swandog46.geekstogo.com
Platform: Windows XP
*******************
Script file opened successfully.
Script file read successfully.
Backups directory opened successfully at C:\Avenger
*******************
Beginning to process script file:
Rootkit scan active.
No rootkits found!
Completed script processing.
*******************
Finished! Terminate.
*EDIT: Once I close Firefox and reopen it, it isn't as slow. It seems the first time I open firefox it takes a minute to open (if I open it within the first two minutes of rebooting the computer. The startup process (once I log in to windows) makes the computer crawl for two to three minutes.

Uninstall Combofix:
Go Start > Run
Type in:
combofix /u
Note the space between the "combofix" and the "/u"
Restart computer.
Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe- Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and click Scan to run express scan. Click OK in pop-up window to allow scan.
- This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the Yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
- Once the short scan has finished, select Complete scan.
- Click the green arrow
at the right, and the scan will start. - Click Yes to all if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
- When the scan has finished, in the menu, click File and choose Save report list
- Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
- Close Dr.Web Cureit.
- Important! Reboot your computer because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
- Copy and paste that log in the next reply. You can use Notepad to open the DrWeb.cvs report.
NOTE. During the scan, pop-up window will open asking for full version purchase. Simply close the window by clicking on X in upper right corner.
Post fresh HijackThis log as well.
