    Start Menu

    Hiya,

Just learning the win7 layout....and I skipped Vista. But I would like to get my start menu section for "All programs" to cascade like they did in the XP classic mode. Any way to do that in win7?

Customize start menu options don't list the programs section for menu option.

It looks like there may be third party software (or bloatware) to do this. Another possibly useful link is below:

Interesting discussion there. I happen to be aligned with those that feel program cascade was a very useful function and should have been carried over as an option....and new isn't always better. And since other items will cascade from win7 start....there really is no good reason for dumping it from programs.

Not ready to try the adminstrative tools trick the one person posted yet. Machine is barely a week old and hate to wreck it just yet. Will keep it in mind if I can't get accustomed to the hierarchy scheme.

    jdc2000....

Your link lead to another then another and so on. I eventually landed at this page:

I followed the instructions....and got my programs to cascade. Nothing to install....just adding a shortcut to the documents menu. Works great and I can still have the standard win7 as well. I'm happy now....

Edit: I stopped after step 6.....

This solution is really clever. I love it and use it already.

maxx - Thanks for the update. I'm sure others will find it useful. I'm sure there are plenty of other users that get frustrated each time Bill Gates decides his way is the Right Way, the Only Way.

During my travels to find a solution to this....I came across at least three methods to get cascade, and at least the same ammount of arguments on the subject. To me....that is proof it is a function that MS should have left alone since so many want it. It may seem a minor point for some...but to me, cascade was huge. The user interface is something MS should never take for granted. No matter how stable and good an OS is...if people aren't comfortable, you missed your mark.

Automobiles have had steering wheels for about 100 years. Imagine if Ford decided that next year's models wouldn't have them anymore....but rather joysticks instead?
