[RESOLVED] Assert in LSP?

Last night, 10/28/09, I downloaded something from Adobe I think it was Adobe flash player 10 Active X or the Adobe flash player plug in. It was one of the two or both. I was at this site that shows movies from Internet to PC. They suggested that I download this program. So I did. I was running Firefox when I did it. Now I can't log on to firefox. I can get on line with Internet Explorer but whenever I click on to Firefox or use the google search the following box comes up:

Then it gives me the options to abort retry or ignore

Whatever I choose it goes back to my screen saver. I'm back where I started. The box also appears when I start my computer up. I click ignore. As I said I have no problem with Internet Explorer but I can't get into Firefox or use google search.

If someone could tell me what this box is saying that would be a great help. I can't understand the terms they are using. I don't know if it's something I can fix.

I have Windows XP and I have a DSL high speed and I have a DEll Dimensions E510computer.

Thank you Steve. I think I'll hang around here a while and maybe learn something more than how to click a mouse. My wife restricted me from anymore downloads for a month

I'd also try reinstalling Firefox browser then reinstalling the flash player plugin
while using Internet explorer rather than firefox.

I am receiving the same Assert in LSP thing when I try to open firefox. But I have tried to system restore several times and everytime it says that the computer cannot be restored to that restore point. Is there anything else that can be done?

I hope I'm not breaking any rules but I received cabalab's post in my email box and being new here I am not too familiar on how this works so I will answer his question here and if it should be posted elsewhere please inform me or move it if you are able.
Now to cablab's problem: After receiving many helpful replies to my query I put them all together and finally did the following; I totally removed, uninstalled then searched all files and folders and deleted any traces left, firefox from my computer along with google and that seemed to do it. One poster on another unrelated forum told me that google has been known to have a glitch that causes that. He told me to reload firefox and use their site to reinstall google. Haven't done that yet. I am still reveling in the fact that that pesky message stopped popping up.

Thank you for the advice. I appreciate it very much, however after I wrote posted the question, I decided to see if I could figure it out and low and behold I have now ruined my computer, probably beyond repair. By the time I was done I could no longer get on the internet, i had programs that were popping up that weren't quite installed, but not quite uninstalled if you can figure that one out. I had messages telling me to reinstall the program in order to delete it. It's just such a mess I don't know what to do now. But again, I appreciate your replying so quickly. I just wish I had waited to start messing with it.

Does your computer still boot and run? If so, we can probably straighten it out if you post the exact error messages you are getting. If not, you may need to do a repair install.
