[RESOLVED] Icons vanish from desktop
When I right click and try and rename an icon on my desktop, it vanishes once I hit enter to confirm the rename. To get the icon back, I have to right click and undo rename or refresh the desktop and it will reappear. Any ideas how to fix or at least any ideas on what's causing this?

When you do the rename can you see the file extension?
I'm guessing that you are accidently renaming the extension too...Beside not doing that, you could disable the usual hide file options.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

Steve, I am trying to rename the desktop shortcuts, they do not show extensions. What do you mean by "Hide file options"? I Googled the problem, there are several people have the same problem. No big deal, only a little annoying.

Give us a before and after example of what you're renaming. (to and from)
Also - Control Panel->Folder Options->View tab->has three options to hide files. Disable all three for testing purposes.

Not on mine they don't. Was this an upgrade install?
Nick.
