Update Problems, Can't "Save As" from OE and more...

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!!
    (1) Computer is set for Windows to receive automatic updates. The yellow icon in the system tray is now, suddenly appearing alerting me to updates that needs to be installed. When I tried installing, I received message, "Some updates can't be installed. Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 Security Update for Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, and Windows XP (KB953300)." Also, "Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .Net Framework 3.5 Family update for .Net Versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86"

    (2) I cannot save pictures ("Save As") from Outlook Express to anywhere. Window says "System cannot find the file specified", and, when I press the Help button, it says "Cannot find C:\windows\system32\MSHTML.hlp File"

    (3) Just downloaded/installed IE8. Won't allow me to default to another search engine. Says, "Program on computer has corrupted your default search provider for IE. IE has reset this setting to original search provider....."

    Thank you, again!

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
    1. Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
    2. Close any open browsers.
    3. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
      • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
      • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.

NOTE. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
      • Close any open browsers.

    Uninstall Combofix:
    Go Start > Run
    Type in:
    combofix /u
Note the space between the "combofix" and the "/u"
    Restart computer.

Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.

    1. Open HijackThis.

    2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.

    3. Put checkmarks next to the following HijackThis entries:

    - R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - *{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)
    - O2 - BHO: Yahoo! Toolbar Helper - {02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn0\yt.dll (file missing)
    - O2 - BHO: (no name) - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - (no file)
    - O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

    4. You should also checkmark following entries (these are unnecessary startups; no actual programs will be removed):

    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HPBootOp] "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Boot Optimizer\HPBootOp.exe" /run
    - O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"
    - O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ISUSPM] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService\ISUSPM.exe" -scheduler
    - O20 - Winlogon Notify: !SASWinLogon - C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASWINLO.dll

    5. Click on Fix checked button.

    6. Restart computer.

    7. Post new HijackThis log.

    Your computer is clean

    1. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

    2. Turn off System Restore:

    - Windows XP:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
    3. Click the System Restore tab.
    4. Check "Turn off System Restore".
    5. Click Apply.
    6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
    7. Click OK.
    - Windows Vista:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
    3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
    4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
    5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
    6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on (in most cases, drive "C:")
    7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
    8. Click OK

    3. Restart computer.

    4. Turn System Restore on.

    5. Make sure, Windows Updates are current.

    6. If any Trojan was listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately!

    7. Download, and install WOT (Web OF Trust): http://www.mywot.com/. It'll warn you (in most cases) about dangerous web sites.

    8. Run defrag at your convenience.

    9. Read How did I get infected?, With steps so it does not happen again!: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic2520.html

    10. Please, let me know, how is your computer doing.

The MS update icon is still appearing in the system tray. This is the message/update that spits back after it tells me it wouldn't install...
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86 (Framework 2.0-KB9533001).

I still cannot "Save As" images from OE. Same error message I originally stated, still appears.

Last night, I uninstalled IE8...also, same problems as previous, with an error message appearing everytime I open IE, stating, "Program on computer has corrupted your default search provider for IE. IE has reset this setting to original search provider....."

Any other suggestions as I'm going nutzzzzzz here?

    Thanks once again, Broni

I'm afraid, that's about all, we can do in malware section.
    Your computer is clean.
I suggest, you repost your issue at Windows section to get more attention.
There is very limited access to malware forum.
