[RESOLVED] Game controller requires constant calibration
Not sure if this belongs in XP or Hardware forum - Mods, please move if necessary.
I use a Logitech Attack 3 game controller to play various games - Flight Simulator, etc. Starting a couple weeks back, this game controller requires calibration upon every restart. I can verify it in the game controller properties - it typically pulls either to left or right.
When I go through the normal calibration process, it works fine until the next restart. Weird thing is that this just started happening a couple of weeks ago. Before that, it worked fine day after day and only required recalibration once in a while. I haven't installed any new software or hardware that might interfere, as far as I know.

EDIT: Also have tried updating the driver, etc., but no luck.

Any software installed for it?
If yes, uninstall, reboot a couple times then re-install.

No - I just did the default driver software that popped up when I first plugged it in. Maybe I'll check Logitech's website and see if there is a different version. An update check through Device Manager didn't pull anything up, but sometimes you have to do this manually I guess.

Don't know how long or how hard you have used that controller but maybe the internal parts are starting to wear out.

I wondered about that (it's probably ~ 3 years old). Thing is, when calibrated correctly, it works just fine - no issues tracking or incorrect motion, etc. And the calibration is only required upon startup. Never needed in the middle of the day no matter how much I've played.
Is it possible that internal parts wearing out could cause such an issue with calibration only at startup?

If calibration is only required at startup, then the most likely cause of the problem is a driver saving incorrect default settings for the device. You might be able to fix the problem by uninstalling the driver, then manually deleting any files, folders, and registry entries left over that are associated with the device, then rebooting and reinstalling the drivers.

Okay, I'll give that a whirl. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver but I didn't go through the registry or folders and delete stuff - maybe I need to do that.

Just wanted to post back on this thread. I tried the registry deleting, etc., but no luck.
But I finally went out and bought another game controller - same one. And now the issue is gone!
Still is confusing to me how the old controller was working fine but somehow the calibration wasn't getting saved after a restart. Oh well.
