Neither one and no, you can't run both.
You can run only 1 AV program and 1 firewall.

One thing to point out is that MSE is antivirus only, not a suite. That said, MSE is ok. It is getting decent reviews around the web. I have tested it and can recommend it.

Beyond that, IMO, since version 8.x (now up to 9.x), AVG is no longer something I can recommend.

For my own use however, I use and recommend free Avast. Good, unintrusive protection.

    Be aware, that...
...Microsoft Security Essentials, which is based on the same engine and signatures as OneCare.

As far, as I'm aware, OneCare had really poor reputation.

2 AVs are NEVER recommended if they both have real-time protection running because of performance &/or protection issues. If you have experienced neither you are either lucky or it's yet to happen.

Things I've seen happen with 2 a/v's running in real time.

    Slooow boot times.

    Sluggish performance.

Takes a long time to open and run files.

False positives when each a/v sees the others dat files.

" " when one a/v mistakes the others scans as malicious behaviour.
