WIN7 - Referal error.

I can not find a WIN7 forum yet so I hope you can help me here at the Vista forum.

I am running WIN7 RC Build 7100 fully patched.

I have purchased a Option GTM380 3G modem for my Gigabyte T1028X (2GB memory) and installed it. I now need to install the driver. I downloaded that from the Option website and unzipped it. However, when I try to install it I get the following error:

"Failed with error 8235: A referral was returned from the server."

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Oh and please provide step by step instructions as I am not very good at this.

GlyndwrBartlett--Don't forget that Win7 Gold is not "officially" released until October 22. So most things available so far concern RC, which, however, is free and good to use until next summer.
Google has 64 million listings for Win7 forums so far. But I am sure VirtualDr will be on of the best.

Hi everyone,

I have resolved this issue. The unziped file was an msi. Apparently an msi is a package of files (e.g., .exe, dll, etc). So I downloaded an msi unpacker (I used Universal Unpacker) and unpacked the msi. This resuled in two main folder (Drivers and Software). I then went into the hardware manager and tried the install new driver against each of the sub folders in the Driver folder until it recognised the folder required and installed the driver. This resulted in four new devices being recognised. So I ran the driver install for each one. The same folder was sufficient for each of these new devices.

I then ran the GlobeTrotter Connect application in the software folder (no need to install).

It now works. However, I chose 3 as my ISP as they had the best deal. Unfortunately I can rarely pick up a signal. I have no troubles at home. But that is of no use as I have 802.11 at home which is cheaper. I can always pick up Telstra. However, roaming to Telstra is very expensive.

.msi files are installer executables that are meant to be installed with Windows Installer.

I don not thinks this was the cause as I have been able to install Office Apps.

At least the manual extract and install worked!
