Usually, if a CPU dies, the system won't boot at all. More likely possibilities in clude the power supply, and the motherboard or memory. It might be time to run some memory diagnostics, and check the motherboard for bad capacitors. Running the hard drive manufacturer's disgnostics couldn't hurt either.
