[RESOLVED] Intel D945GTP Mother Board Connections
I am putting together a computer with an Intel D945GTP mother board for someone (because theythink I know what I am doing). No manual. No cd. Just a mother board with the cpu, cooler and memory in place and a SATA hard drive. I noticed on the mb that there is only one IDE plug and four SATA plugs. I went to Intel's site and downloaded the installation instructions. The question is can I plug in two IDE hard drives and if so where do I plug in a cd or dvd player? Or do I use only SATA Hard drives and use the IDE plug for cd and dvd connections?
Thanks

On the ide, you can have 2 IDE devices.
You can add a ATA133 card to add up to four more devices.
But I suggest that the hdds be SATA. That way tou can get the largest hdds made if you wish. IDE has a upper limit as they are antiques now.

Thanks for the reply! (So quick!)
SATA HD it is. I'll let you know how it went.
Thanks

SATA hrd drives give better performance than IDE ones. On the other hand there is no real performance advantage to SATA optical drives, so it's best to use the IDE ports for those if you don't have enough SATA ports.

Success! I made two people happy. The young lady (anyone under 50) and, with a little help, me!
Thanks!
