    2.6 cpu to 3.2 cpu

I am wondering if there is much advantage from going from a 2.6 cpu to a 3.2 cpu all other thing being equal?

Looks like 23% increase, but to me, not worth the hassel.

What CPU is it? The amount of work per cycle is different for different CPUs.

I'm guessing you mean an old 2.6 P4 to a 3.2 P4. That wouldn't be a whole lot. Going from a 2.6G Core2 to 3.2G would be a more significant jump since it does more work per cycle.

Depending on what CPU it is, it might easily overclock that much anyway. Then you can have the extra performance for nothing

What the program Everest says is mine is Pentium 4 506 2666 MHz (20x133)
What the add for the 3.2 says is Pentium 4 3.2GHz (800 MHz Bus with Hyperthreading. I don't know if this info helps.

It's much better if you upgrade the memory rather than the processor

    Optimum:
    XP - 2 GB
    Vista - 4 GB

Here is the info on the 506 - http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SL8J8
Make sure they both use the same LGA775 motherboard.

    Do you game?
What do you use the computer for?

    Thanks for the link!

Mostly older games as I am old and slow.

Main uses bill paying, photos, some graphics, watching old tv shows on funcast, watch DVD's, word processing, creating music with Cubase and Wavelab.

The 3.2 cpu is with a different motherboard. Not just swapping a cpu.
