    Memory issues

While recording a game last night (future SB champs the NY Football Giants on my computer using my WinTV-HVR I got an alert stating my available hard disk space was critically low. The file was only 6G and I thought I had at least 40G available.

So I stopped the recording and removed progams I hardly ever use. Increased my available space to 25G. But it should be more. Looking at my Program Files folder I am only using 2G of space. Can't for the life of me figure out what's using all that room?

How do I investigate this? You know, locate the huge files that may be hogging space? I'd like to either delete them or burn them to DVD then delete them.

    Thanks for your help.

Which OS are you using so we can move your thread there?

Its possible the TV show was using a ton of temp files before writting to the drive...If you right click on My Computer and select properties - what are the Used and Free space numbers?

    info you requested

I am using WinXP Home Edition with all the current updates and service packs.

    Hard disk capacity is 82.3GB
    Used space is 70.8GB
    Free space is 11.5GB

I did have around 30 GB reserved for an Acronis partition, but I removed it when this problem occurred.

    ??????

You know, I am really confused as to why I still only have 11GB free after removing Acronis. Maybe I removed the image on my seperate partition but did not remove the partition itself?

How can I check this and how to I remove that partition to allow that space to be added to my main partition? I only need one partition now.

    Thanks.

    That program stinks

That disk analyzer program didn't work. All I got was a windows error and a request to send the proplem to MS.

    Thanks.

Win XP doesn't have the ability to merge partitions AND keep the data.

A program like Partition Magic (about 75 dollars) can do it...Or hang tight and someone can probably recommend a free app.
