Building new PC, suggestions?
Hi,
This is going to be my second, custom built desktop PC, and I already looked at a bunch of stuff which I would like to know if it's going to be better than my older system and if i should consider going with it. Also if you have any recommendations, would be awesome.
The new system is:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80569Q9550 - Retail
GIGABYTE GA-EP45C-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail
OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ3P16004GK - Retail
OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W ATX12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply - Retail
XFX HD-489A-ZDFC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail
or
MSI R4890 Cyclone OC Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail
or
SAPPHIRE 100269SR Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail
or
SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 4870 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail
My current systems is:
Core 2 Duo e6750 @ 2.66Ghz
evga nforce 780i 3-way sli 1333 FSB
2Gb(1Gbx2) 533Mhz DDR2
PSU 700Watt OCZ GameXStream (Same as the one in the above list)
BFG GeForce 8800GT OC 512Mb GDDR3
500Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200.11
Still not sure which video card to go with, but this time I decided to try ATi. If you know a better one, please not more than $250-260 unless the video card has some kind of mail-in rebate/instant savings of $25 or higher. Also my curent motherboard has 3-sli way but I will never go with sli/crossfire stuff so I decided that 1 pci x16 2.0 slot is enough. PSU is a really good one, survived a burn-out.
As for the hard drive ill choose one later.
Everything is from Newegg.ca
Regards.

Power requirements.
8800 GT -78W (512MB memory)
8800 GT -50W (256MB memory)
That 700 should be plenty.

Very true.
But you need 200 watts power MORE for the 4890.

Personal opinion,
When using P35/P45 chipset based mobos, would pair them with DDR2.
Cheers.

Shinma: Is it a really critial thing to consider? Thanks
So overall it's a good machine to go for, or you have a better sugestion(video card, mobo, cpu are the priority)?
I might overclock the cpu, but ill have to buy the BIG heatsink then.

1. Why in catalyst it says that its 4870
2. memory clock at 999mhz instead of promised 4ghz
