CA Antivirus ... false positive ???

wonder if someone can help me out .... I use CA Antivirus and everything was running great until CA did an update, then all of a sudden it quarantined all the files pertaining to my email ... I use Incredimail for my email .... it said they were infected with Win32/bancos .... I deleted the files and tried to reinstall Incredimail and it won't let me, it says the exe file has a win32/bancos ... I am in the process of running a system scan and it has also quarantined files pertaining to a flash program that I purchased over 4 years ago, and have been using with no problems, saying that it is infected with Win32/DreamGroup .... I also have CA on my laptop along with Incredimail and it has just done the same thing to my laptop .... since everything was running fine until CA did its last update, I'm going to assume this must be some kind of false positive ... I am thinking of switching antivirus programs and I would like a recommendation of what to go with .... so far the scans on both my desktop and laptop are coming up clean except for Incredimail and the purchased Flash software ... my husband is going to have fit when he gets home tonight and his email gets shut down, since he also uses CA and Incredimail .... I talked with a friend of mine who also uses Incredimail, but a different virus program, he uses Norton 2009 and his Incredimail is fine .... should I go with Norton 2009 ??

right now I'm at my wits end and I need a suggestion .... can someone please help me

I usually recommend Avira, but the free version lacks email protection. Try Avast.

    CA it is

I sell the CA software on my website as an affiliate, and obviously use the software. I also use Incredimail. Today I experienced the same problem. Uninstalled CA and installed AVG anti-virus. Had to reinstall Incredimail but everything is still there and working fine now.

I'll contact CA and let them know they have a glitch.

    Thanks!

thanks .. but CA is no help at all .... I have tried excluding the file and it won't let me reinstall Incredimail .... can someone recommend a BETTER antivirus program ... I have Norton 2009 here and I'm wondering what your opinion is on Norton ..... I have to get this resolved before my husband gets home, cause if the old goat can't get his email he is going to go through the roof *L*

It is definitely CA. Had same problem myself today with the update. Uninstall CA, download AVG Free from www.download.com and then reinstall your Incredimail. Life will be good!

CA has had some recent issues with false positives. My experience with Norton 2009 has lived up to the excellent reviews I have seen for it. Unlike the 2003-2008 and 360 versions, it doesn't slow down your system or cause other issues.

Angry i am having the same problem at the very same time!

just FYI, I also have ca anti virus and just after 4PM EST i started getting alerts about win32/bancos as well. i did a full computer scan, it found 4 files infected and didn't clean any of them. i went into the files but their properties said they had not been modified at all so i am perplexed. however i am no computer expert. i am not sure what to do either.....

what I have managed to do so far is this ... I took myself offline, and SNOOZED CA ... I then put back all the quarantined files and then EXCLUDED them from the scan list or whatever its called .... this solved the problem on the laptop, but I'm far from solving the problem on my desktop ... I just may give Norton 2009 a try as long as it doesn't slow things down ...

It's another false positive issue with CA over last week, or so.

Stay away from Norton, that's for sure.

I usually recommend Avira, but the free version lacks email protection
Email scanner is nothing more, but an overkill. All files are scanned anyway.

    - Avast! free antivirus: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
    - Avira free antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/en/download/index.html

    - free PC Tools Antivirus: http://www.pctools.com/free-antivirus/
    - free PC Tools Firewall Plus: http://www.pctools.com/firewall/

    - free Comodo Internet Security (firewall + AV): http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/
NOTE. During installation, Comodo will also allow you to install AV only, or firewall only, if you prefer to combine one Comodo product with some other product.

If you decide to install Avast, or Avira, make sure, Windows firewall is turned on, or use PC Tools Firewall Plus, or Comodo firewall..
If you decide to install Comodo Internet Security, or just Comodo firewall, make sure, Windows firewall is turned off.

IMPORTANT! Make sure, you use only ONE antivirus, and ONE firewall.

Go with what Broni said. Avira or Avast would be better than AVG if you only need an AV app.

since I used AVG a couple of years ago, and I'm not too thrilled with either Avira or Avast I went back to AVG and it is running great on the computer .... I never had any problems with AVG in the past until they upgraded it to
version 8 and it slowed things down ... they must have fixed the issues with it because all is running great so far

Avira rated higher than Avast or AVG in the last comparatives (May 2009)
