[RESOLVED] bootmanager problem
Well, I tried again to install RC7 today and again it hung (or after 3 hours of waiting) on the 'finishing installation' section.
I rebooted and allowed it to do it's rollback thing. It rebooted automatically and then disaster..........wouldn't boot. Something to do with the bootmanager.
Anyway, after a little frustration I have installed Vista on the partition I was attempting to install RC7 to.
I have run easybcd to try and sort out the boot problem, but no matter what I try, the system only boots to the new Vista install.
How do I restore my original drive? It's in RAID0 and still accessible from the new install, except now it's listed as the 'D' drive.

Just a note on how I beat the no install business.
I installed XP, no updates or anything, then from inside XP, I started the RC7 install and using custom, it installed just fine.
Removed the folder it placed the XP stuff, after browsing it for a couple items.
Anyway what worked for me. NOTE: I do not use RAID.

Have you tried using BCDedit from within the new Vista install to detect the other install and add it to the boot loader? It's not very user-friendly but it might pick up on "one of its own."

Thanks guys. I will take a look when I get home from work. I think this is also going to be my last foray into RAID too

Good news. Popped the Vista CD in, chose repair, loaded the raid drivers and the boot manager was repaired. I tried the same thing yesterday and it said nothing was wrong. Go figure.

For some crazy reason, shutting down and giving computers a rest, seems to fix a lot of things like that.
