XP asks for password on open network

Hi there,
I have an open wifi network set up temporarily at work. There is a user running XP (not sure which version) who can not log on to the network. Her wifi adapter sees the network but asks for a password. The network is open. So we end up stuck at that point. Any suggestions on how to get her online?

You didn't specify which password. I'm guessing you mean it's the Windows password and not the WEP or WPA password.

Are you running a domain? Verify the user's version of XP and SP. XP Home cannot connect to a domain.

Sorry, I didn't explain that very well. I have a portable internet modem that accesses a mobile-type network. I connect a Linksys Wireless router the modem to set up an open wifi network for internet access. This one person running XP sees my open network but when she tries to connect gets a message saying the network "requires a password".

That's a different story entirely.

I'm guessing that this "portable internet modem" has some kind of authentication. You either need to set that up in the Linksys router or install the client software into the XP system. You didn't say the make/model or the ISP, so it's hard to be specific.
