need help with a bug ...........
Hi folks , first off thanks in advance , over the years you's have been an invaluable resource and helped me out a few times.
so now with the problem , a couple weeks ago i came home to find out my son tried to view a video and downloaded the viewer , at wich time my norton visus alert popped up. I cleaned up with norton , adware , and uniblue, spyware programs ..... untill they show nothing in scan's i have done.
My system works pretty good now except it freezes randomly , requiring me to manualy restart ......... and I"m noticing when I do a google search , the first time i click on a link I get redirected to a default search page , closing the page and reclicking on the link brings up the page i origionaly clicked on.
I'm running XP Pro , that came with service pack 2 included , and have all the updates including service pack 3 installed. using ie 7.0.5730
Going through your sticky , i tried all the things stated there.
Housecall at TrendMicro , will not run
BitDefender Free Online Virus Scan , pics up 2 objects ( included in my GMER log , but I canot save a log file )
same with , Panda ActiveScan
Downloading SUPERAntiSpyware and installing it will not run ( load )
spybot search and destroy will also not load. I get the little hourglass for about 10 seconds then nothing. Checking the processes I see the SBSD teatime helper running but the scan will not run.
I also had to rename hyjackthis toget it to run.

Please download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
- Please, never rename Combofix unless instructed.
- Close any open browsers.
- Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
- Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
- Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
- Close any open browsers.
- WARNING: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts
- Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
- If there is no internet connection after running Combofix, then restart your computer to restore back your connection.
- Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
- When finished, it will produce a report for you.
- Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
**Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall**
Make sure, you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix.

I need Combofix log, not GMER log.
Your HJT version is outdated...
Download HijackThis:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...kthis/download
by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
Install, and run it.
Post HijackTHis log.
Do NOT attempt to fix anything!
NOTE. If you're using Vista, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as Administrator
Your computer surely may be doing better, but we're far from being done.

1. Print this post out, since you won't have an access to it, at some point.
2. Close all windows, except for HijackThis.
3. Put checkmarks next to the following HijackThis entries:
- O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll (file missing)
4. You may also checkmark following entries (these are unnecessary startups; no actual programs will be removed):
- O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
- O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /install
- O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Advanced Tools Check] C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~2\AdvTools\ADVCHK.EXE

- O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
- O20 - Winlogon Notify: !SASWinLogon - C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASWINLO.dll
5. Click on Fix checked button.
6. Restart computer.
7. Post new HijackThis log.

2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Check "Turn off System Restore".
5. Click Apply.
6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
7. Click OK.
- Windows Vista:
1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click on System Protection under the Tasks column on the left side
4. Click on Continue on the "User Account Control" window that pops up
5. Under the System Protection tab, find Available Disks
6. Uncheck the box for any drive you wish to disable system restore on (in most cases, drive "C:")
7. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click "Turn System Restore Off" on the popup window to do this.
8. Click OK
3. Restart computer.

Many thanks Broni .... i normaly keep system restore off unless I'm about to do something stupid ........ when i ran one of the programs , i think it was combofix it created a restore point and turn'd it on ....... and i didn't notice it untill i saw one of the logs.
and yes I'm one of those ........ how can you learn to fix it if it's not f@**k'd up , so lets mess it up so we can fix it kinda guys. I'm getting pretty good with the hands on stuff , illiterate with the computer terminology lingo though , but I so far have not had to walk into my local computer shop with my tower under my arm and I've home made my last 3 systems. but it seems the new bugs are getting more and more harder to clean.
Before I turn this into a novel , my systems running back to normal now , want to say thanks for all your help it's greatly appreciated.
