Question Is there *Anyway* to make Firefox bookmarks look like IE's Favorites?

    I just built a new i7 'puter.

Had the go to guy at one of the leading GPS manufacturers in the USA set up the BIOS.

He convinced me to start using Firefox, so I am.

Compared to what I'm used to (IE), the bookmarks are a mess.

Is there any Firefox add-on I can use to do this?

I'm sorted by name, but can't create Folders, which I'm used to seeing at the top.........sorted by name.
They're there....just not set up as Folders and scatted all over the place.

I am totally new to this browser and Vista Ultimate, so please don't flame me...ok?

    I need a cookie manager too.....but I'll do 1) thread at a time.

My post numbers make newer members think I'm some kind of genius anyway.

    LOL!

    Any suggestions/comments much appreciated.

What do you mean you can't create folders?

    Bookmarks - organize bookmarks

You can create folders, sort, etc.

Steve_83--I do not know what it is that you do not like about the arrangement of the FF bookmarks.
Here is a program to allow you to still use IE Favorites in FF
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/668
And here are some general references about how to handle the import of IE Favorites to FF Bookmarks
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_Safari_Bookmarks
    http://www.kb.indiana.edu/data/atus.html
And info on how to arrange the FF bookmarks
    http://mozilla.gunnars.net/firefox_b..._tutorial.html (see section 3)
    http://askville.amazon.com/re-arrang...uestId=1016029
If this does not help, tell us what the specific problem is.

Thumbs up Thanks Jim et all............

This issue exists just because I've used IE for so many years in the busine$$ world.

If I compare that to what I used to do:
Designing and Implementing Medium Voltage (2300 - 4160 VAC) Control Systems, and sometimes low voltage (460 VAC and below) Electrical Controls......

There's one big Folder on my desk......and there might be as many as 5 - 6 of them.

All around the Primary Task and pinned to my work area are sticky notes, as reminders, contacts, etc..

If I look at my Favorites in IE, all the Primary folders are at the top, sorted by name.

Below that could be as many as 100 misc. sites I might visit as needed.

In FF's Bookmarks, they're sorted by name, but scattered all over the place, and don't show as Folders.
Just the small arrow showing that Bookmark is expandable.

Yeah...I could try every single link you were generous enough to post.

Is FF like IE in that when I download an add-on and then decide I don't like it, are there all these frapping leftovers in the registry, program files, etc?

That's where I'm trying to get to, sans the leftover junk.

If I could find one that looks, feels and acts like IE.....I'd be one happy FF surfer.
    (again)

    Does this description make sense?

If so, I'll wait for a reply rather than load up my Shiny New i7 machine with un-needed cr**.

In case you haven't noticed thru the years, God did not Bless yours truly with an intuitive, computer genius type Brain.

I found all these too in Bookmarks > Bookmark add-ons:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...2/sort:popular

I can organize from there, and I can already tell FF is a Superior Browser.

    Which one do I pick?
    That's the question?

I'm still not following what you mean. Could you post a screenshot? I've attached a shot of my bookmarks organizer screen.

Xmarks is one of the better bookmark organizers. It also supports IE.

You can download portable firefox and test out different addons before you install them onto your main Firefox. You don't have to run portable FF from a flash drive.

Mid and Jim.....Attached is the best I can do using Vista on one HD.

I haven't imported the Favs from the docked Laptop that shows that style of your Favorites/Bookmarks/whatever.

I'm going to make the ass-umption ("When you assume.....it makes an a** out of you and me.": Quote from a former Employer)
that you both know what the Folders in IE look like.

Check out the attachment you requested, if you would?

See these 4) Favorites in FF that show as Folders in IE ?

    -- Business
    -- Computers
    -- Computer Help
    -- Digital Cameras

Does this make the issue more clear?

My folders from IE in Firefox are scattered all over, and I would *really* prefer to have my most important sites in Folders......sorted by name ......at the top.

I hope this make more sense about this minor issue.

Thanks for any more suggestions on add-ons you have used, and I'll follow the instructions: Deal ?

Once I get this and a good cookie monitor (so I can selectively delete the bad ones, and keep trusted cookies)...I think I'm going to become a Real Firefox advocate.

Anyone else who cares to add their $.02......please join this thread.

    I'll wait for a reply.

    Thanks again guys!
